"We should be dreaming.  We grew up as kids having dreams but now we're too sophisticated as adults, as a nation.  We stopped dreaming.  We should always have dreams."

What is the point of going to the Olympic?
To be the best in the World...
To perform for your nations glory...
To compete against people from all over the world, who are the best at their sport...
TO BEAT THE COMMUNISTS AND WIN THE WAR!!

The Olympic games are ment to settle differences and unify in the form of friendly, unpaid compition.  This has not always played true, our socail and political differences have gotten in the way of the olympic games multiple times throughout history.

During the Cold War the U.S. and Soviet's political and social differences changed the competition of the games.  Victory soon became a national statement of superiority and a symbol of strength for their nation.  Not only was the Olympics a stage for Cold War competition, but it also was an opportunity to take adavatage of the global media.
